H5 Resources and Mwerasandu Turn Out 83 Strong for Uganda's National Cleaning Day
Ntungamo, Uganda — September 29, 2026 — H5 Resources, a Uganda-based tin producer rebuilding the historic Mwerasandu mine through modern engineering, open operational data, and applied AI, brought together the people of Mwerasandu on Saturday 26 September for Uganda's National Cleaning Day. Eighty-three people turned out to clean Mwerasandu community centre, the main road and the roads that link them to the mine.
The morning began at half past six with a safety briefing beside the road to the mine. From there, 54 residents, 22 additional local workers hired for the day and seven H5 Resources staff worked along the track through the banana gardens, down the main road and into the community centre, filling sacks as they went. By the end of the morning the sacks were loaded onto the company's truck and taken to the waste shelter at the mine. Local leaders joined the work, among them the LC1 Chairperson of Mwerasandu.
“I am happy for cleaning we have done today especially cleaning our community centre Nyakagando, I request to continue doing this thing,”

National Cleaning Day is a Government of Uganda programme, established by Cabinet Circular No. 1 of 2026 and held on the last Saturday of every month from seven to ten in the morning. It asks residents and institutions across the country to look after the places they share. 26 September was the third edition and the second in which H5 Resources took part. In August, about 100 people joined the company.
For H5 Resources the day is part of how Mwerasandu is run: hiring from the villages around the mine, working side by side with the community, and organising community work to the standards of the mine, with a safety briefing before the start, a sign-in sheet for everyone who took part, and the same care for a neighbour with a broom as for a miner on shift.
“A mine is only as strong as the community around it. On Saturday our team and our neighbours cleaned the roads we all share, side by side. I am proud of this team: of what we build at Mwerasandu, of how we work with the people around us, and of the social licence we earn every day. We will be there on the last Saturday of every month,”
Igor Silberud, CEO and Co-Founder, H5 Resources
H5 Resources will take part in every edition and will publish the figures from each one. The next National Cleaning Day is Saturday 31 October.
